This is a recipe of mine that I’ve had for a few years, Baked Ziti with Italian Sausage.  I’ve seen similar on Google and Pinterest, but none exactly like the one I’m sharing with you today.  I originally got this recipe from a newspaper when I lived in Maryland, and have since “tweaked” it to my own liking.  I hope you like it as well!

Baked Ziti With Italian Sausage

Baked Ziti with Italian Sausage

Easy and fast enough for a week night meal!

As one of the working dogs in this country, I often have a hard time finding the time for “Gourmet” meals every night.  This wonderful recipe is fast and easy, and can even be made the night before so you can poop it in the oven when you get home from work!  How awesome is that?  Plus, this Baked Ziti with Italian Sausage is pretty darn versatile, meaning you can “tweak” it yourself!  Try different cheeses, pasta, meats or vegetables, and spices, to add your own personal touch.  One rule though, the sauce base should stay the same, which is the red and white sauces mixed together.  Quite frankly, I don’t know why you’d want to change up the sauces, they go so well together!

There are different flavors of Alfredo and Spaghetti sauce you can use.  I used Ragu Traditional, and Asiago and Parmesan Alfredo Sauce.  You can also change up the spices to your liking, or add some heat to it by adding some red pepper flakes, or use hot Italian sausage instead of mild.  The possibilities are endless!

If you liked this recipe…….

Please leave a comment!  If you “tweaked” it, let me know what you did to make it yours!!

Steps

1
Done

Cook the ziti according to the package directions, rinse under cold water and set aside. Cup up the italian sausage into bite sized pieces. In a medium sized skillet, cook over medium heat until done. Remove from pan and set aside.

2
Done

Get out a large pot, and put in the spaghetti sauce, alfredo sauce, 1 1/4 cups of the mozzarella, 1/2 cup of the parmesan, and the ricotta and fontina. Add in the spices and garlic except for the basil.

3
Done

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees, and spray a 9 x 13 inch casserole pan with cooking spray.

4
Done

Cook your sauce over medium heat until the cheeses are melted and incorporated into the sauce. Once your sauce is bubbling, add the cooked pasta and sausage, and mix well.

5
Done

Pour your creation into your prepared dish, and sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and parmesan on top. Bake uncovered for 30 minutes, adding the basil to the top in the last 5 minutes of cooking.

6
Done

Remove from the oven when done and let sit for about 5 minutes before serving!
